Top 6 Highlights from the 2019 Emerging Trends in Wellness Conference

emerging trends and wellness conference

Wondering what’s next and what’s best in wellness? Our 6th Annual Emerging Trends in Wellness Conference outside of Boston was the place to be last week!

Our Speakers Our speakers covered everything from the evolution of health care to the future of health care while also addressing corporate wellness trends, how to engage hourly employees in well-being, best practices for creating sustainable wellness initiatives and tips for developing dynamic programs on a dime. The conference also featured a day of leadership topics designed to help HR, benefits and wellness attendees develop and grow as professionals.

OMC Acquisition We announced our acquisition of Maine-based Occupational Medical Consulting (OMC). Our team is excited to further enhance and expand our wellness offerings to current and future clients. The acquisition brings our customized approach to wellness together with OMC’s highly trained health coaches to drive better health outcomes and ultimately, healthier employees. OMC’s unique and effective approach to behavior change along with the physician driven software tool has resulted in established wellness program participation rates and outcomes well above the national norms.

15-Year Anniversary Celebration During the conference we featured highlights from our 15 years in business. Did you know we have sent out a weekly e-newsletter every Friday since 2000, that we have participated in two research studies with Harvard University and we have 24 Registered Dietitians on staff? We celebrated all these milestones and more at a cocktail reception with clients, colleagues, conference speakers and Best Wellness Employers.

BWE Winners Seven of the organizations that achieved 2019 Best Wellness Employer gold certification discussed their tips for success during an engaging and interactive panel. Attendees heard from A.I.M. Mutual Insurance Companies, Cape Cod Healthcare, Focused Post Acute Care Partners, Maine Veterans' Homes, Norway Savings Bank, the Orlando Utilities Commission and Systems Engineering. Speakers shared insights on best practices and provided real life examples of how to overcome challenges when starting and growing an employee wellness program, including support around incentives, communications, and senior management

Conference Sponsors and Exhibitors Our sponsors and exhibitors decked out the exhibit hall with the latest products and services aimed at improving employee health and well-being. From nutrition services and healthy foods to yoga, art, meditation, wellness retreats and products for self-health management, our vendors offered a wealth of information for employers. Our energizing BINGO game kept the exhibit floor busy throughout the conference and attendees won fabulous prizes for participating.

WWDI Graduates 95 Interns The current class of the Wellness Workdays Dietetic Internship concluded with a commencement ceremony on April 11. This year’s class included 95 students who focused on one of three areas of practice: Worksite Wellness and Health Promotion, Sports Nutrition and Entrepreneurship or Nutrition Communications and Marketing. Throughout the year our students interned with esteemed organizations including Verizon, the Mayo Clinic, the Boston Celtics, the Washington Redskins, Duke University, UCLA, Vanderbilt University, the Albuquerque Police Academy, St. Vincent Healthcare, Lemuel Shattuck Hospital, Farm Fresh Rhode Island and The Living Plate. Our program has quadrupled in the past six years and we now have interns and graduates from 48 of the 50 states.

If you weren’t able to join us at this year’s conference, we’ll be featuring various articles throughout the year on the topics our speakers highlighted throughout the two-day event. Plan ahead and save the dates for the 7th Annual Emerging Trends in Wellness Conference April 1-2, 2020.
