Stay Motivated Through the Winter

Winter activities

It’s funny isn’t it? You have no problem exercising in the warm months of the year, but when winter rolls around finding that motivation seems so much harder. Yes, the days are colder and shorter, but that doesn’t mean you can’t exercise. You may have to move your workouts indoors for a few months. If you’re in a rut or can’t find your mojo, treat yourself to some fun cold weather workout gear or sign up for a new workout class. If you’re ready to brave the cold weather, give cross-county skiing or snowshoeing a try. The most important part is to find something that works for you. Quick, effective workouts may be easier for you, especially when you are busy.

Beat the Excuses Your bed might be nice and cozy on a cold winter morning, but don’t let that be an excuse. Set a timer on your thermostat so it turns up before you get out of bed. If your bedroom is just as warm and cozy as your bed, it makes getting out of bed easier. If the dark mornings are bringing you down, invest in a sunlight simulator. Some versions can act as an alarm clock, turning on at a set time and making it seem like the sun is shining through your window. Finally, trade your buzzing alarm for a fun, upbeat song that will make you want to get up and get moving. These three tips practically guarantee you will get yourself up and out of bed for that winter morning workout.

Bottom Line: It can be hard to stay motivated during the cold, dark winter months but making small goals, buying fun workout clothes and overcoming your excuses can really make it worth it. Don’t let yourself fall into a slump, the warm weather will be here soon.
